Animating virtual characters is an extensive challenge that often leads to unsatisfying results. Motion Capturing offers a way to record natural human movements with a camera tracking system and later cross-record the data onto a virtual character. In a study project a team of seven students under the guidance of Prof. Jürgen Singer analyzed how to use the Motion Capturing of the Hochschule Harz in a suitable way. We created a storyboard and chose a well-known character with a build that is humanoid even though there is no real chest and belly. After recording the motion data from a real actor we edited the data e.g. looped the steps and then cross-recorded it onto our Monster Inc. Mike. Finally we created a copy of the Monster Inc. room setup and after two weeks of rendering we added sound and title animation.
